Council ponders 'green' codes

The D.C. Council is weighing a change to city building codes to mandate new buildings be more environmentally friendly - a move likely to face opposition because it could increase construction costs. The legislation, introduced last week, would require the District government and private developers of construction projects larger than 20,000 square feet to meet Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design program certification standards.
